The brass version is a needle with a split shaft, open towards the eye, and a spherically rounded needle tip. If a band is threaded into this eye and then pulled down between the halves of the needle shaft, it gets clamped and can then be securely anchored and pulled through the casing. The other threading needle, made of rust-protected steel, is also a blunt needle. However, it has a wide, flattened and thus thinner needle shaft with both a long and a round eye. The long eye is intended for holding bands and thick yarns, while the round one is suitable for finer yarns and elastic cords. The burr-free rounded tips of the needles cannot pierce the fabric and therefore glide easily through any fabric casing.
